Melinda Castillo


Melinda Castillo, CFCS-HNFS, is a Family and Consumer Sciences Instructor specializing in Hospitality at Canutillo High School.  In this role, Ms. Castillo teaches all courses in Hospitality including Principles of Hospitality & Tourism, Introducation to Culinary Arts, Culinary Arts & Practicum Culinary Arts.  

Ms. Castillo is certified by the American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) in Hospitality, Nutrition and Food Science and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas.  She also a recent graduate from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas where she earned a Master of Science in Family & Consumer Sciences.  Ms. Castillo is licensed by the state of Texas to teach Hospitality, Nutrition & Food Science, Business Education, Marketing Education, Special Education and General Education 4-8.

Before joining Canutillo Independent School District in 2009, she worked in a diverse range of occupations, including medical office administration and hospitality management. 

Drawing on eighteen years of experience in business management, Ms. Castillo now focuses mainly on youth education and advocacy.  She now teaches high school students to strive for success in life.

Passionate about Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) and its possibilities, she mentors students to help them serve the community, travel and learn skills for various competitions at the state level.  She also currently serves on the FCCLA State Visionary Committee.

Ms. Castillo currently serves on one state boards representing the El Paso area: Hospitality Educators Association of Texas (HEAT) Far West Texas Representative.  Previously selected as Canutillo High School Teacher of the Year in 2012, she was selected and served on the Texas Education Agency (TEA) Texas Educator Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) Review Committee for Hospitality in 2014.
